PitlaneHQ vs MechanicDesk.

MechanicDesk is the biggest AU workshop platform. We treat the comparison honestly — they have a 15-year head start and 20,000+ mechanics using them; we're sharper on editorial UX, modular pricing, and AU/NZ-native GST. Free data import either way.

FAQ

Common questions.

How do I switch from MechanicDesk to PitlaneHQ?
Book a demo and our team runs a free import of your customers, vehicles and service history. You keep working in MechanicDesk until you are ready to cut over, so there is no gap in day-to-day operations.
Will I lose my data if I switch?
No. We import your customers, vehicles and history at no charge, and PitlaneHQ lets you export your own data at any time. There is no lock-in contract.
How does PitlaneHQ pricing compare to MechanicDesk?
The models differ. MechanicDesk charges per user — a base plan by user count plus $15/mo (+GST) for each extra user. PitlaneHQ charges a flat plan by team size: $109/mo inc GST covers up to 5 users with the full workshop core, then you toggle add-on modules monthly. For a 5-user shop that flat plan often lands below MechanicDesk once extra-user fees are added — see the worked example on the page.
Is PitlaneHQ built for Australian workshops?
Yes. PitlaneHQ handles GST-inclusive pricing, Australian rego and PPSR/NEVDIS vehicle lookups, and is backed by an Australia-based support team during AEST business hours.

Per-seat pricing — a worked example (5-user workshop)
MechanicDesk charges per user: you pick a base plan by user count, then pay $15/mo (+GST) for every extra user. PitlaneHQ charges a flat plan by team size, GST included. Here is how a 5-user workshop actually compares.
  • MechanicDesk (per-user)Small plan $115 (3 users) + 2 extra users × $15 = $145/mo + GST (~$159.50 inc GST)
    $145/mo + GST
  • PitlaneHQ — Starter (flat)Flat, up to 5 users, full workshop core included — no per-seat add-ons
    $109/mo inc GST

MechanicDesk pricing per its published Australian plans (mechanicdesk.com.au, verified 6 July 2026): Starter $85 (1 user), Small $115 (3), Team $150 (6), Large $250 (15), each +$15/mo per extra user, all +GST. PitlaneHQ pricing per our own pricing page (inc GST). The $145 figure is the cheapest MechanicDesk configuration that covers 5 users. Both vendors bill SMS and lookups separately as you go.

On the roadmap
We mark our own gaps honestly rather than imply they ship today. In-portal card payment (PitlanePay) and a native mobile app are on the roadmap, launching 2026, and our public API is in beta. The customer portal itself — online quotes and invoices — is live now; only the in-portal card-payment step is still to come.
